Latin WorldWelcome to LatinWorld.net, a guide to the Latin world of antiquity and of today–ancient Rome, the Latin language and its descendants, the Romance languages, and Latin America, one of the most exciting places and cultures in the world!

The ancient Roman civilization is the origin of many parts of our culture that we take for granted, from certain Latin words derived, to legal traditions, symbols, holidays, and other aspects and cultural practices. Many think that the Latin language is a dead language, but it is quite vital in many contemporary circles, including medicine and religion, particularly as the official sacramental language of the Roman Catholic Church since the fall of the Western Roman Empire.

The political institutions of the United States have been designed by people heavily influenced by Latin traditions. Modern Latin America also generally shares a common language, Spanish (as well as some Portuguese and French), all of which are Romance languages derived from, and close to Latin.

Latin culture, ancient and modern, is one of the richest, most diverse, and most exciting civilizations, and one of the greatest contributors of human achievement in history.
